The Vrije Universiteit has over 4500 members of staff, working in the humanities, social sciences,
medical sciences, law, and economics. The University has nine different faculties which specialize in research, teaching and (inter)national consultancy with an emphasis on four strategic university
themes: the connected world, governance for society, human health and life sciences, and science
for sustainability.
Professor Melanie Ehren from the Vrije Universiteit has extensive expertise in research and capacity development in the areas of educational governance, inspections and school improvement. She has
worked with Inspectorates of Education across Europe in developing and evaluating their work with
the purpose of improving learning outcomes. In her EU-funded project on polycentric inspections,
she developed and tested models and working methods to evaluate the quality of educational
networks. She will bring a range of good practices in the field to this project, and an understanding of why, and under which conditions these practices are effective and can be adapted to new contexts.
